Dr. Fernando Melendez, clinical neuropsychologist

Please join us for RNCN on September 4, 2008 as we welcome Dr. Fernando Melendez, clinical neuropsychologist. Dr. Melendez is a bilingual practitioner who is very familiar with worker's compensation. He will be presenting "The Neuropsychology of Mild Head Injury". A review of the principal tests and test betteries used in the diagnosis of brain injury in general and mild head injury in particular. Dr. Melendez will review the structure of a neuropsychology report and how it can help in the management of mild head injury. He will also present clinical expectations at the time of injury, after six months and after a year as well as potential for recovery and long term expectations

August RNCN -Meeting "Everything you need to know about the shoulder and knee!

Our own Mary Engles (from RNCN) will be moderating a panel of Experts:

Our own Mary Engles (from RNCN Board of Directors) will be moderating a panel of "medical specialists" discussing the key strategies of Shoulder and Knee Rehabilitation. Speakers will discuss the healing time frame for soft tissue injuries and soft tissue surgeries of the knee & shoulder; differences in the healing time between soft and hard tissue; rotator cuff exercises and scapular stabilization exercises and description, treatment and causes of shoulder impingement syndrome; and exercises for knee and shoulder rehabilitation.

June - RNCN Monthly Meeting "Interested in Industry Standards regarding the role, case load, and skill level and performance measure for the Case Manager?"

Stefany H. Almaden RN, MS, CCM, CPUM, CMCN

Stefany is a Care Management and a Life Care Planning Specialist, Consultant, Business owner with over 25 years of service in different settings within the Health Care Industry.

Most of Stefany’s professional experience involved working with vulnerable populations: Medicare/MediCaid beneficiaries, catastrophic cases of Spinal Cord Injuries (SCI) and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), Stroke patients, and other life-altering events.

Stefany is also chairing the Care Management Institute of a National Nursing Association (AAMCN) setting industry guidelines for Care Management Specialty and is serving on the Board Directors of AAMCN.

Stefany is currently working on her Ph.D. in Health Services, and continues to advocate for access to care issues. Stephany will be discussing the following:

  • Role of Care Manager
  • Reasonable Case Load
  • Skill level necessary to perform Care Management Functions
  • Performance measures for measuring the effectiveness of Case Management.
  • Defining Case Manager Role with the new CMS IPPS Final Rule
